Description:

Every pet has a unique personality—that specific tilt of the head, the mischievous glimmer in their eyes, or the quiet devotion in their stare. Celebrate your furry family member with a timeless, hand-painted custom portrait.

Each piece is meticulously brought to life using rich, vibrant gouache paints on heavy, textured cold press watercolor paper. This combination creates a stunning depth of color and a beautiful matte finish that digital prints simply cannot match.

  • Hand-Painted Artistry: 100% original, custom artwork created from your favorite photos of your pet.
  • Premium Materials: Painted on archival-grade, cold press watercolor paper, offering a gorgeous, classic texture.
  • Unique Wax Seal Finish: Each completed painting is gently sealed with a specialized artist’s wax. This protective layer locks in the colors and provides a subtle, sophisticated sheen while safeguarding the surface.

Each painting should be palced behind glass and displayed out of direct sunlight to reduce fading.

Please note I am currently booked out 4 weeks.

Terms and Conditions:

1. Reference Photo Requirements
To ensure the highest quality artwork, the client must provide a reference photo that meets the following standard criteria:
  • Subject Coverage: The photo must clearly include the subject's full face and chest, or the entire body.
  • Eye Contact: The pet should be looking directly into the camera lens.
  • Camera Angle: Photos must be taken at the pet’s eye level rather than from an overhead angle.
  • Balanced Lighting: The image must utilize even, balanced light. Avoid harsh shadows or strong backlighting.
  • Image Clarity: The photo must be crisp, sharp, grain-free, and high-resolution.
2. Consultation and Communication
  • Pre-Order Review: The client is welcome to email the artist at sarahbowden.art1@gmail.com for feedback on reference photos prior to placing an order.
  • Post-Order Outreach: If no prior contact is made, the artist will reach out after the order is placed to request and verify the reference photo.
  • Detailed Description: During this outreach, the artist will consult with the client regarding specific project details, including background color preferences through a questionnairre. Additional questions may be asked after the questionnairre is filled out.
  • Communication Deadline: If the client fails to respond or provide a viable reference photo within 5 business days of the artist’s outreach, the order will be cancelled and fully refunded.
  • Completion Estimate: After the artist has reviewed the description and information provided after the order has been made. The artist will provide a completion date estimate of when the painting can first be reviewed by the client.
  • Inital Beginning of Painting: Once the artist begins work on your painting, orders are no longer eligible for a full refund in the event of a cancellation. Instead, cancellations at this stage will receive a 50% refund of the total purchase price. The remaining 50% is non-refundable and will be retained to cover the artist's time, labor, and materials.
3. Artistic Style and Execution
  • Signature Style: The painting will be executed strictly in the artist’s established creative style as seen in previous portfolio work.
  • Stylistic Scope: Alternative artistic styles, such as ultra-realism, fall outside the scope of this agreement and will not be accommodated.
4. Review, Edits, and Shipping
  • Final Preview: Upon completion, the artist will provide the client with a digital photograph of the finished painting for review before shipping.
  • Revision Window: The client may request minor adjustments and edits to the painting at this time, prior to its shipment.
5. Satisfaction Guarantee and Refunds
  • Pre-Shipment Cancellation: If the client remains unsatisfied with the painting during the preview stage and wishes to discontinue the editing process, they may request a cancellation.
  • Partial Refund Policy: In the event of a pre-shipment cancellation, the client will receive a 50% refund of the initial charge.
  • Artist Compensation: The artist will retain the remaining 50% of the initial charge to cover the cost of materials, time, labor, and creative effort invested in the piece up to that point.
  • Finality of Sale: Once the client approves the final preview and the painting is shipped, the sale is final. No refunds, partial or full, will be issued after the artwork has been dispatched.

Commissions FAQ's

What is the process of getting a custom commission?

Once you select your canvas size and place your order, you’ll submit your reference photos and any specific preferences (such as background colors or special details). You can schedule a consultation where I’ll review your photos to ensure they’ll work well for painting. Once approved, I’ll begin crafting your custom portrait and keep you updated on progress along the way before safely packaging and shipping the finished piece to you.

Can I schedule a consultation before ordering?

Yes, I would be happy to sit down and discuss the process with you before purchasing! We can work out which photos to use and size of the portrait you want as well as any additional details. Click this link to book a consultation!

How long does a custom portrait take to complete?

I schedule custom portraits on my schedule based on when payments are received. Depending on the size of portrait it may take longer or shorter. I will communicate the estimated completion date either during your consultation or after your purchase.

Can I include multiple pets in a single portrait?

Yes! Multiple pets can be painted together on larger sizes. You don't even need a single photo with all of your pets together—I can combine individual photos into one cohesive painting.

How do I decide which size to purchase?

Generally, I recommend square sizes for bust portraits and rectangular sizes for a full body portrait. We can discuss if you want in a consultation.

How do I take or choose a good reference photo?

The best reference photos are taken in bright, natural daylight (outdoors or near a window) at your pet’s eye level. Look for sharp, clear images where your pet’s eye color, coat texture, and distinct features are clearly visible. Avoid direct flash or blurry photos.

  • Find good lighting.
  • Get at the pet’s level. You may need to get on your knees or crouch down to their eye level.
  • Get their attention, so they are looking directly at the camera.
  • If they won’t stand up their ears, feel free to scratch behind their ears to take a photo. Make sure to include another photo in the same position with their ears down without your hand in the photo.

What if I only have older or lower-quality photos of a pet who has passed away?

Please send whatever photos you have to sarahbowden.art1@gmail.com! While high-resolution photos are ideal, I frequently work with older or memorial photos. Send over your favorite options, and we can discuss which one will translate best into a painting. If you purchase before scheduling a consultation, if I feel I cannot use the photos you have, I will give you a full refund.

Can I request specific background colors or personalized details?

Absolutely. You can specify a color palette, request a clean neutral tone, or ask for custom additions (such as special name tag detailing).

Will I get to see a preview before the painting is shipped?

Yes. You will receive a photo proof of the finished painting prior to shipping to ensure you are happy with the final result. If you are not, you can request edits. No edits can be made after the painting has been sealed.

What is the refund policy?

Inital Beginning of Painting: Once the artist begins work on your painting, orders are no longer eligible for a full refund in the event of a cancellation. Instead, cancellations at this stage will receive a 50% refund of the total purchase price. The remaining 50% is non-refundable and will be retained to cover the artist's time, labor, and materials.

Finality of Sale: Once the client approves the final preview and the painting is shipped, the sale is final. No refunds, partial or full, will be issued after the artwork has been dispatched.

What happens if my order arrives damaged?

If your order arrives damaged during transit, please take clear photos of the damaged item and the outer packaging within 48 hours of delivery and contact me directly at sarahbowden.art1@gmail.com. A replacement or repair will be arranged right away.
